Scout Benjamin Rawald of Troop 280, Del Rio, Texas, was
awarded the William T. Hornaday Silver Medal, the
highest conservation award of Scouting. Rawald
individually completed over 2,800 hours of conservation
service. He also supervised more than 8,000 hours
of service by volunteers since 2016. His projects included a plastic-bag cleanup, a printer-toner recycling, a wetland-reclamation and Milkweed for Monarchs. He is the first Scout to earn this award in the history of the Texas Southwest Council, BSA. He joins some 1,100 other Scouts who have earned this award since 1914 by the National Council, BSA.
