West Texas Scouting History Privacy Policy

PURPOSE

The purpose of the West Texas Scouting History Internet Web Site is to:

    * Promote the rich Scouting history of West Texas.
    * Research the history of Scouting in West Texas though information provided by those that have lived that history or have access to documents that detail that history.  This includes newspaper stories and published books.
    * Preserve the history of Scouting in West Texas in a web site format so that it is available to more people.

The West Texas Scouting History web site is committed to respecting and protecting the personal privacy of those who provide information for the web site and those who visit its pages.  Acknowledgement is given to those persons who provide information for publication on the web site.

CONTENT

All documents, illustrations, photographs, and linked materials must conform to the principles, policies, and traditions of Scouting.  This is the only official web site of the History of Scouting in West Texas and is privately owned.   Local Boy Scout Councils and Order of the Arrow Lodges have the right, given to them by this webmaster, to reproduce that history on their own official web site. Other history web sites may use this material only with permission of the webmaster.

LINKS TO OTHER WEB SITES

The only links are those to other web sites which are related to providing additional information on the history of Scouting or of West Texas and those that are required to view the information presented on the site (such as Adobe Acrobat Reader or Google). There shall be no links to sites that do not relate to Scouting history, except to those sites maintained by this webmaster.  Links to Boy Scout Councils will be kept to a minimum and must be beneficial to the history of Scouting in this area.  The inclusion of web site addresses does not imply endorsement of that site or its content.  Use of these web sites is at your own risk.

PRIVACY

Providing personal information is never a prerequisite for access to any of the content or resources on the West Texas Scouting History web site. Specifically, refusal to provide personal information via a Web interface will never result in a user being denied access to any on-line content or resource they would be able to access if the information were submitted.

The use of individual's personal information and/or photographs will be limited to the following:

   1. The names of youth under the age of 18 can be listed as long as there is no other personal information other than unit number and/or community.
   2. Personal information of youth between the ages of 13 and 18 will be added after an Information Release is signed by that youth's parent or guardian and the type of information allowed is annotated. Information published in a newspaper may be used as it is already public knowledge.
   3. Written permission is not required to list the names of adults. Other personal information such as address, phone number, e-mail address, etc. will only be listed after an indication by that person as what information is allowed.
   4. Pictures of youth may appear on the web site as long as there is no other personal information associated with the picture. The name, unit number and town may be listed if appropriated to the photo, such as a Jamboree photo.
   5. Pictures and names of adults may appear on the web site. 

INDIVIDUAL WEB PAGES

The West Texas Scouting History web site will not provide space for individuals or groups for their own web pages. 

SALES

There will be no advertisements, commercial endorsements, electronic sales of  merchandise, or sales or promotions of products allowed on the West Texas Scouting History web site except for those published by the webmaster.

INFORMATION GATHERING

It is the policy of the West Texas Scouting History web site to acquire personal information from users only by overt and voluntary means, only when it is in the interest of the user to provide it, and to utilize this information only for the purpose it was provided. 

COPYRIGHTS

Every effort is made to protect copyrights. Known copyrighted material is noted and the author will continue to update this information when received. The material appearing on the West Texas Scouting History web site is copyrighted, whether the copyright is noted or not, and is not to be used commercially without express written permission.

We strive to protect copyrights. Any copyrighted material inadvertently included in this web site will be removed upon notification if permission cannot be obtained.

Information and resources found on this site may be used and reproduced for personal Scouting purposes only, provided credit is given to the author and/or West Texas Scouting History.
